I write to understand more about the world around me.
I begin with a bit of my knowledge, expanding on experiences that require deep thought and research.
Through the written word we escape, unleash, vent, pray and hope.
We may experience an adventure outside of our understanding or learn of events beyond our reach.
We can be anyone, go anywhere, and give our imagination freedom to roam. We wander bravely, able to write our own story.
There is great power in storytelling. Healing and wonderings occur when we put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).
My writings express loss, change, and all things beyond our control. Because most of what we encounter in life will be out of our control and through that, there are great lessons to be learned.
How we handle ourselves in life is what truly matters, even if at first we stumble, we learn to take steps forward.
As a writer, mother, wife, and deep thinker, I understand the need for small groups of women to gather in a safe space.
I married into military life, raised three young kids into teenagers, and moved a dozen times, including overseas and back to the U.S.
Small talk was never an option. Conversations went deep into what mattered most when getting to know someone and settling into my community.
We all need safe people to share life. No two stories are ever the same so there is no need to compare. We can listen to each other's story and feel their experience.
We learn through documenting our personal stories and grow from walking alongside another through their story.
As the writer Flannery O'Connor said:
“There is something in us, as storytellers and as listeners to stories, that demands the redemptive act, that demands that what falls at least be offered the chance to be restored."
